BIG 12 Week 6 report

 





Okay so we are almost mid season in the  BIG 12 conference let's go over things real quick.


Firings

Mike Gundy 

Todd Grantham

Less than a week after longtime head coach Mike Gundy was let go DC Todd Grantham was fired.


Top Teams

Iowa State

As expected Matt Campbell has Ames excited about this year's Cyclones ,hopefully they can finish down the stretch.

Arizona State 

ASU won a big game at home against TCU last week ,they are only one drive away from being undefeated. Things are looking really good in Tempe right now.

Texas Tech

The boys in Lubbock are looking good early this season. Will this be the year that the Red Raiders reach the BIG12 championship Game.

BYU 

After a scare in Boulder last week the cougars remain undefeated. This week they are back home to host West Virginia I expect the cougars to start 2-0 in conference.

Houston

What a great start to the year for Willie Fritz Houston is 4-0 sits at 1-0 in conference play.


Still in the Hunt

Utah 1-1 in conference (road win at WVU)

Cincinnati 1-0 in conference ( Huge win on the road at Kansas last week)

TCU 0-1 in conference  ( Lost close game to Arizona State)

Baylor 1-1 in Conference ( won on the road against Oklahoma State)

Kansas 1-1 in Conference ( Lost a last second heart breaker at home to Cincinnati)

Kansas State  1-1 in conference ( Dylan Edwards had a great game K State got home victory vs UCF)


Teams trying to make a Bowl or finish with a respectable record. 

Let's remember anything can happen in these next five weeks so some of these teams can still Improve and have a chance at a BIG 12 title. 

UCF  0-1 in conference ( Will host Kansas needs three wins to get Bowl eligible

Arizona 0-1 in conference ( Will host Oklahoma State 3 wins away from Bowl eligibility )

Oklahoma State  0-1 in conference ( fired longtime head coach ,Pokes just need a win)

Colorado 0-2 in conference ( Buffalo's have competed in every game Coach prime needs good QB play)

WVU 0-2 in conference ( won Backyard Brawl similar to coach prime, Coach Rich Rod needs a QB)

No BIG 12 Teams in top 25 (college baseball)

  Earlier in the year Cincinnati baseball was ranked in the top 25 after a series win at Duke. Kansas State started off 0-2 and then went undefeated in the Amegy Bank college series at Globe Life Field. The Wildcats went undefeated that weekend beating Arkansas, Michigan and TCU. KState is now 9-5.  The Kansas Jayhawks are off to a 13-1 start, the best record in program history.  Houston, Arizona and UCF all have had solid opponents early in the season.  UCF has early season wins over  SEC Florida and Missouri and currently sit at 12-3.  Arizona State currently has a 12-4 record and an opening series win over Ohio State. I am sure the BIG 12 will make a run in the post season.

5 BIG 12 teams ranked in the top 25 heading down the last stretch of the season

  Three Big 12 teams remain ranked in the college basketball top 25 heading into the last two weeks of the season. Houston and Iowa State remain in the top 10. Meanwhile, Texas Tech, Kansas and Arizona are all in the top 20. The Big 12 could get 8 teams in the tournament, which is half of the conference. The competition in this new Big 12 is immaculate from top to bottom. The RPI and strength of schedule has to be noticed come selection Sunday. Until then, all fans should enjoy the end of this season and the BIG 12 tournament.  March is always exciting and unpredictable.
